If you wish to travel with HTM on public transport, you must take the following into account:
The direction: Every bus and tram travels in two directions.
For example: tram 9 shuttles between vrederust and Scheveningen Noorderstrand.
Before you alight you must pay attention not only to the line number but also to the direction. You will find the direction specified on the front of the vehicle as well as in the information at the stop.
Get on...
Please board our buses only via the front door. When you wish to alight from a bus, you must use one of the side or rear doors. You may board and alight from our trams and RandstadRail vehicles via any of the doors. When traveling by paper ticket, this ticket needs to be validated at the driver. On RandstadRail you can validate your ticket before boarding at the ticket dating machines at the platform. It’s also possible to buy a single ticket in bus or tram, but this option is always more expensive than traveling by OV-chipkaart.
Traveling by OV-chipkaart?
Always check in and out when travelling by OV-chipkaart. The system registers where you board and where you alight, and determines the cost of the journey by the distance travelled.
Check-in as follows:
1. Hold the OV-chipkaart in front of the pink OV-chipkaart logo on the smart card reader, when
entering the vehicle. These smart card readers are located in various parts of the buses and
trams near the doors.
2. You will hear a beep and the green indicator will light up. A boarding fee (€ 4,-) will be
temporarily deducted when you check in. The credit on your OV-chipkaart should be at least
the boarding fee.
Are you travelling with others? Every passenger requires their own OV-chipkaart. Make sure you do not hold the card in front of the reader twice, because you will not only be checking in but also checking out. If an inspector checks the tickets and you are not checked in you will be fined.
Get off..
To let the driver know that you want the vehicle to stop at the next stop so that you can get off, press one of the ‘stop’ buttons in the vehicle. A red light will come on to confirm your request. At the stop, the bus driver will open the doors. Remember, though, that if you want to alight from a tram or RandstadRail vehicle, you will have to press one of the ‘open’ buttons at the doors.
