Do you frequently travel by public transport? Then you would benefit from a Region season ticket (Regio abonnement). A month or annual season ticket is simple and cost-effective. And with an annual season ticket you will travel for 12 months for the price of 10! You must use your personal OV-chipkaart to check in and out with your season ticket.
a) Where to buy
Season tickets will be sold as a 'product' on a personal OV-chipkaart. Season tickets are personal and can only be put onto a personal OV-chipkaart.
It is convenient to have a season ticket if you require unlimited travel in particular zones. The starting date for the season ticket can be any day of the year. You can purchase a season ticket at HTM service points, but also at many other locations.
In your neighbourhood
It is easy to purchase a month Region season ticket at one of the yellow vending machines. These can be found at locations such as supermarkets, tobacconists and gift shops. Click here for: address finder (opens in a new window).
At home via the internet
When you are at home on the computer ov-chipkaart.nl/opladen (opens in a new window) it is easy to purchase a Region season ticket and then collect the travel product at a pickup device in your neighbourhood. These can be found at supermarkets, tobacconists and gift shops. Click here for: address finder (opens in a new window) and in HTMbuzz buses (blue terminals) and at the stops at Spui, Grote Markt, Leyenburg, Centraal Station and Zoetermeer Centrum-West (yellow terminals).
HTM service points
You can purchase Region season tickets at one of the HTM service points in The Hague at the Central Station (bus platform) and Hollands Spoor station. Or at the service point in Zoetermeer Centrum-West (next to the Rabobank). You can purchase month and annual Region season tickets at all the HTM service points.
NB! Make sure you determine in advance the star value and the central zone you require. At the vending machines you can purchase Region season tickets with a star value of 1, 2 or 3 for centre zones in the Greater Hague Area.

c) Stars and central zones
You can use a star Region ticket with the public transport companies Connexxion, HTMbuzz, RET and Veolia, involved in the urban and regional public transport in the applicable zonal area. This zonal area depends on the selected central zone and the star value of the Region season ticket.
You can select a single zone (star value 1) or an area comprised of multiple zones. In the latter case, you select a central zone plus one or more adjoining zones. The star value indicates in how many zones you can use your season ticket. The higher the star value, the greater the area in which you can have unlimited travel. If you choose a season ticket with multiple stars, you can also determine the central zone. From this central zone, you can travel in any direction as long as you remain within the selected number of zones.
The following shows the zones that apply to star season tickets with a particular star value:
1 star: 1 zone (valid in central zone)
2 star: the central zone + 1 adjoining zone in any direction
3 star: the central zone + 2 adjoining zones in any direction
4 star: the central zone + 3 adjoining zones in any direction
5 star: the central zone + 4 adjoining zones in any direction
6 star: the central zone + 5 adjoining zones in any direction

Wich season ticket do I need?
To determine the star value and the central zone for your Region season ticket, you must take the following into account:
• The actual route taken by the bus or tram. This route must fall within the zone(s) for which your season ticket is valid.
• The choice of central zone. You must then calculate the size of the applicable area by counting the number of zones from the central zone through which you travel.
Example
You travel from Kijkduin (A) to Leidschendam (B). The route taken by the public transport passes through three zones: zone 5419, zone 5416 and zone 5413. In this case you would choose the middle zone as the central zone, because zones 5419 and 5413 both border on zone 5400. You would therefore select 5400 as the central zone, with a star value of 2. You can travel one zone from the central zone, which means you can travel to zone 5419 and zone 5413, but also to zones 5410 and 5414.
Chosen the wrong central zone or star value?
month season ticket
You can change the star value and the zone number of your central zone at HTM service points. You can change the central zone within 48 hours of the starting date of your season ticket. The starting date will remain unchanged but the central zone will be changed immediately on your personal OV-chipkaart. It is only possible to change the star value to a higher star value and consequently to a more expensive season ticket. This change will be carried out immediately to your personal OV-chipkaart. You will pay the difference between your current and the new season ticket.
Annual season ticket
Exchanging an annual season ticket, whereby the current annual season ticket is cancelled, can only be performed in the following cases:
• If the starting date is incorrect. However this is only possible at the time of purchase.
• When applying for a higher star value.
The latter case will always involve exchanging a less expensive for a more expensive annual season ticket, whereby the new annual season ticket will have the date of exchange as its starting date. It is not possible to exchange a star season ticket for another ticket. The disadvantage resulting from the loss of the two 'free' months is compensated in part by a more favorable refund scheme for the surrendered annual season ticket.
d) Traveling with a season ticket
• You must use your OV-chipkaart to check in and check out, otherwise you risk receiving a fine.
• No credit will be debited from your OV-chipkaart when you check in and out within the valid zonal area of your season ticket.
• Pre-paid credit or another travel product will be used automatically when you check in and out outside of the valid zonal area of your season ticket.
• You can only check in using a personal OV-chipkaart that contains a season ticket, if there is credit (€ 0,00 or more) on this personal OV-chipkaart.
You can only travel in The Hague area with the public transport companies of Connexxion, HTM, HTMbuzz, RET and Veolia. Only these companies recognize this Region season ticket on your OV-chipkaart when checking in and out.
e) Paying for an annual season ticket in payment terms
You can only purchase an annual Region season ticket at HTM service points. An annual Region season ticket is issued as a digital product on your personal OV-chipkaart. When you purchase an annual season ticket that is paid in terms, you must present a valid proof of identity document, such as a passport, driving license, or a municipal identity card. You must authorize HTM to set up a direct debit to collect the terms. To be able to check the account number, you must also present a bank card that contains the number of the account from which the direct debit is to be collected.
When you purchase a season ticket with a monthly direct debit you must pay the first term (10% of the price) in cash or by switch card at the time of purchase. The remaining amount will be collected from your bank account in nine monthly terms, starting in the month after the starting date of the season ticket.
f) Interim cancellation and refunds
Month season ticket
The month season ticket product can be cancelled on the personal OV-chipkaart before two days have lapsed after the starting date. The season ticket holder will be eligible for a refund.
Annual season ticket
If and how the original annual season ticket product can be cancelled on the personal OV-chipkaart is described on the back of the contract that you receive when buy an annual season ticket.
g) Faulty OV-chipkaart with season ticket (Duplicate)
month- and annual Region season ticket
You will only be eligible for a duplicate personal OV-chipkaart if the original one is faulty. You must go to a HTM service point with your faulty personal OV-chipkaart. Here you hand in the OV-chipkaart and complete a form to apply to have your personal OV-chipkaart replaced. The replacement personal OV-chipkaart will be sent to your home address by post within three weeks. During this three week period you can obtain a temporary season ticket (for the duration of your season ticket) on a temporary OV-chipkaart on payment of a € 25.00 deposit. h) OV-chipkaart with season ticket is lost or stolen (Duplicate)
Month season ticket
Your personal OV-chipkaart is protected against loss and theft and it can be cancelled if required. You should cancel your card as quickly as possible via 'Mijn OV-chipkaart' on ov-chipkaart.nl. Have your bank account number to hand for your credit refund. Your OV-chipkaart will be protected against misuse from the next day. You can apply for a replacement card immediately. If you request a replacement card, you will receive it within three weeks. A replacement OV-chipkaart costs 11 Euros.
What if you do not have a 'Mijn OV-chipkaart' account? You can contact OV-chipkaart Customer Services by calling 0900-0980 (€ 0.10 p.m.). Have your bank account number to hand for your credit refund.
If you had a season ticket on your old card, this will be transferred to your new OV-chipkaart. You cannot claim from HTM the travel costs you incur during the period that your season ticket continues to be valid before you receive your replacement OV-chipkaart.
Annual season ticket

i) Temporary replacement season ticket
Who can get a replacement star season ticket…
HTM issues temporary replacement season tickets to passengers that have a faulty personal OV-chipkaart. This applies to passengers with a month or annual Region season ticket on their personal OV-chipkaart. However, if the personal OV-chipkaart has been lost or stolen, a temporary replacement season ticket will only be issued to passengers with an annual Region season ticket.
This is how you get your deposit back...
You will have paid a deposit of € 25.00 for your temporary OV-chipkaart. You must hand in this temporary OV-chipkaart within one month of the temporary season ticket lapsing. After this the temporary OV-chipkaart will be invalid. If you return this OV-chipkaart in good working order, your € 25.00 deposit will be returned. You can only return this temporary OV-chipkaart at the HTM customer service point in The Hague at the Central Station (bus platform) and in Zoetermeer Centrum-West.
You keep the same season ticket...
This temporary OV-chipkaart contains the same season ticket that was on your stolen, lost or faulty personal OV-chipkaart. The travel entitlements are identical to the original season ticket. The temporary season ticket is valid for one month or less if the original season ticket ended earlier. The temporary season ticket is only valid for the original season ticket holder.
Credit on your temporary OV-chipkaart...
You can also top up the credit on this temporary OV-chipkaart. When you hand in this OV-chipkaart, you will receive the remaining credit from HTM, up to a maximum of € 30.00 minus € 2.50 in administration costs. If the temporary OV-chipkaart has a debit, you must pay the difference when you hand it in.
Products on your temporary OV-chipkaart...
You can also put other travel products on this temporary OV-chipkaart, such as a day ticket. Make sure you use these products before you hand in the temporary OV-chipkaart. It is not possible to transfer travel products to a different OV-chipkaart and HTM does not refund travel products.
